Firing up a range of funky breaks classics on Side A of the tape.
Category: Classic DJ Sets
Sublight: “Good news on the Oldskool tip” Classic DJ set
Oldskool happy hardcore, just the way I like it: with tons of breaks and just the right amount of piano.
Sublight: “Open the Dopamine Floodgates” Classic DJ set
Side B – Let the good times flood.
Sublight: “Let Neural Traffic Thrive” Classic DJ set
Side A. A for Acid.
Sublight: “Slip” Classic DJ set
Classic Funky Breaks. I was always a huge fan of breaks, and from 1993-4 onward, I’d always make sure to catch John E’s sets at Toronto parties as he was one of the first major breaks players to really throw down in the city. Pretty soon I was picking up south Florida, west coast and Philly tracks on a regular basis.
Sublight: “The Acid Man sells spiked Ice Cream” Classic DJ set
Back in Ottawa in the early 90’s, some friends, who shall remain nameless, liked to put the odd hit or two into their ice cream cones, and make a wild afternoon of it wandering through the market and the parks.
Sublight: “Happy Hardbore” Classic DJ set
My only issue with the resurgence of happy hardcore in 1996 in Toronto was that the style as a whole was getting too 4-beat oriented, and unfortunately a bit too cheesy. This set of mostly United Dance tracks reinforces this; it’s not til late in the mix you get a decent variety of jungle breaks in there, and the sound is a bit too ‘toytown’ for me, but at the time it still got people jumping…
Sublight: “Yabba-dub-a-do” Classic DJ set
One more classic chillout set for you – this one has, you guessed it, a dub flavour, but moves all over the lo-beat space. Enjoy.
Sublight: “Don’t Fuck with the Funk” Classic DJ set
Some more classic chillout. This one traverses downtempo, ambient and gets just a wee bit experimental. Enjoy.
Sublight: “The New Groove” Classic DJ set
Bouncy & brazen and finishing funky.
